Beth Low

Beth Low is a second semester design student and feels like she is finally living her dream of becoming an interior designer. She admits that this is something that she should have done 30 years ago instead of attempting to obtain a left-brained business degree.

Beth is a native Texan and moved to SLC 25 years ago after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shortly after moving to Utah she served an LDS mission to Vienna, Austria. Upon returning from Austria, she married her best friend, Steve. She and Steve have been married for 22 wonderful years and have 2 children, Nikki, 19 and Dave, 18. Her children have been her passion for the past 2 decades. She has always known that when the children were grown, she would go back to school and get her degree in interior design.

Outside of school, Beth enjoys camping, boating, travel, reading and volunteer work, as well as serving in various church callings. Her favorite callings have always been those dealing with teenagers, with whom she feels she has a special connection.

I attended Utah State University where I received a bachelor degree in interior design. My internship at USU was with the campus architect in their planning department, completing all of their drafting and remodeling plans.   Soon after graduating my husband and I moved to the Los Angeles area.  I worked with a firm specializing in custom home design, and later with a firm specializing in healthcare design.  I also started my own company, Jeri Eastman Interiors.  Working in smaller diverse firms has given me experience in many aspects of interior design-from practical business concerns to the creative process from the ground up.

I became a professional member of ASID through passing the NCIDQ exam in 1988. I also became a certified interior designer in California through a building and barrier free codes exam.

We moved back to Utah in 1997.  I started teaching interior design soon after moving back, through Jordan School Districts community education classes.  I discovered I really enjoy teaching!  I have taught since Winter Semester 2002 at SLCC.  I teach Drafting and Space Utilization, Materials and Components of Design, and Color Theory.  I love helping the students, and seeing their creativity and knowledge progress.  It is wonderful being a part of that process!
